During the General Assembly meeting of the International Council on Social Welfare (ICSW), held in Nairobi, Kenya, on 28 June, Professor Driss Guerraoui of Morocco was unanimously elected Vice-President of the International Council on Social Welfare.
The election represents an important milestone in the history of ICSW, as Professor Guerraoui becomes the first representative from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to hold this position since the founding of the organization in 1928.
Professor Guerraoui brings to this role extensive academic, institutional, and public policy experience. His distinguished professional career includes serving as Advisor to the Prime Minister of Morocco (1998–2011), President of the Economic Intelligence African Associations Forum, Secretary General of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council of Morocco (2011–2018), and President of the Competition Council of Morocco (2018–2021).
A respected scholar and author, Professor Guerraoui has published extensively on economic development, social transformation, employment, governance, and global challenges.
Throughout his career, Professor Guerraoui has received numerous international distinctions, including recognition from the United Nations Association of America, the United Nations Development Programme, the French Republic, and various academic and international institutions.
Professor Guerraoui has been closely associated with ICSW for many years, making significant contributions to the organization’s mission and activities. Prior to his election as Vice-President, he served as President of the ICSW regional structure and actively supported the advancement of social welfare, social development, and international cooperation.
