ICSW and our members are active in a wide range of fields within the general areas of social development, social welfare and social justice. This includes issues such as food and nutrition, welfare and health services, social security, education and housing, as well as many issues relating to economic development, human rights and community participation.

Information and Communications

ICSW gathers and distributes information to community groups, other civil society organisations, governments and intergovernmental organisations.

From1996 to the end of 2004 we published a quarterly magazine, Social Development Review, as well as a series of policy papers by experts from inside and outside our membership.

Policy Development and Advocacy

ICSW undertakes research and organises consultations to help analyse problems and develop policies. Each of our regular biennial conferences at global and regional levels covers a very wide range of issues. Many other forums, seminars and workshops are convened on specific topics.

We prepare written policy submissions, lobby governments and organise delegations to attend key international meetings. We also work with other international organisations, especially by convening joint meetings and developing consistent policies.
