B. Regional Activities
ICSW North East Asia Regional Webinar on COVID-19: Welfare Challenges and Response
The webinar, “ICSW North East Asia Regional Webinar on COVID-19: Welfare Challenges and Response” was organized by ICSW North East Asia Regional Secretariat on 29 July 2020. The Webinar aimed to facilitate the regional welfare sector to exchange valuable experience and new initiatives in response to the pandemic. The event was moderated by ICSW North East Asia Regional President, Mr. Chua Hoi-Wai.
Six speakers from Hong Kong, Japan, Korea and Taiwan were invited to share their insights and experiences in the context of the pandemic. The Webinar attracted over 100 participants from all over the world and provided an effective platform to explore successful factors to prepare for the risk of the COVID-19 in global, regional and local level in the near future as well.

ICSW NEA COVID-19 Webinar on - 29th July 2020
To enhance information and knowledge sharing, and to explore possible collaboration in regional/ global level to overcome COVID-19, ICSW North East Asia Region is going to host the “ICSW NEA COVID-19 Webinar on COVID-19: Welfare Challenges and Response” aiming to help the regional welfare sector to exchange valuable experience and identify good initiatives in response to the pandemic.
The webinar will also explore successful factors to prepare for the risk of the second wave of COVID-19 in global, regional and local level in the near future. Members and friends of ICSW family are welcome to join.

2019 ICSW North-East Asia Regional Conference on Family Development and Social Welfare
2019 NEA Regional Conference was successfully held during 8-9 July 2019 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The theme of conference was “Family Development and Social Welfare”. Other than exchanging experience and insights for promoting better family services and policies, regional members also visited different service facilities to know more about family and social service development in Mongolia. About 150 participants attended the Conference.
Joint World Conference on Social Work, Education and Social Development 2018 (SWSD2018)
North East Asia is experiencing a large and growing ageing population. The pace of ageing is rapid due to declined fertility and increased longevity, and in some cases shrinking populations. The ageing population with the increasing old-age dependency ratio becomes one of the major challenges to the society, from socio-economic to policy systems. In recent years, North East Asia region is trying to identify technological solutions to assist older adults in independent living and social participation. The assistive technologies also contributes by reducing the burden on their families and caregivers.
“ICSW NEA Symposium: Technology and Social Innovation for Ageing in North East Asia” was organized on 6 July 2018 in the Joint World Conference on SWSD 2018. The Symposium aimed to share and exchange the experience in technology advancement and adoption in ageing North East Asia societies, and to engage practitioners and participants to discuss innovative solutions to increase the effectiveness and responsiveness to the needs and aspirations of elders in the region and worldwide. Around 70 participants joined the Symposium.
2017 ICSW North-East Asia Regional Conference on Long Term Care
The biennial NEA Conference was successfully held during 27-28 June 2017 in Taipei, Taiwan. The main theme of the Conference was “Technology Application and Social Innovation in Aging Society”. In the Conference, regional members shared and exchanged innovative ideas and projects in technology application and visited elderly facilities and related services in Taipei. The Conference attracted an attendance of over 200.
Joint World Conference on Social Work, Education and Social Development 2016 (SWSD2016)
The SWSD2016 has been successfully held during 27-30 June 2016 in Seoul, Korea. The theme of the conference was “Promoting the Dignity and Worth of People”. A total of 232 sessions and 1,540 presentations were arranged. 3 social programs and 12 field visits were organized. More than 2500 participants from more than 80 countries attended the conference. The Seoul Declaration from IASSW, ICSW & IFSW was adopted during the Conference.
2015 ICSW North-East Asia Regional Conference on Long Term Care
The Hong Kong Council of Social Service hosted the biennial NEA Conference during 5-6 November. In the Conference, regional members shared and exchanged the long-term care service development and the challenges facing in the region. Gala Dinner, agency visits and community tour were organized to regional members. Over 100 participants from regional members, Mainland China, Macau and Hong Kong attended the Conference.
