Workshop
Recommendations
Creating
Coalitions for Peace
Recommendations to Civil Society:
-
Acknowledge the fact that conflicts involve a variety of actors and
that all must be included in the resolution process.
- Realize
that the closure of democratic forums plays a vital role in the creation
of conflicts.
-
Support the development of solidarity peacebuilding movements concerned
with the violence hampering social coexistence and public safety, bearing
in mind that complex steps are required to reach agreements with the
often unidentified parties responsible for this type of violence that
destroys the social fabric, especially in major cities.
Recommendations
to Governments:
-
Implement mechanisms to ensure that civil society is fully involved
in the peace process.
- Maximize
efforts to find political solutions to conflicts.
- Provide
stronger guarantees and conditions for peaceful coexistence and public
safety and ensure that all citizens are able to exercise their rights
fully.
- Promote
dialogue as a privileged instrument for conflict resolution.
- Provide
information on existing peace agreements in order support peacebuilding
as well as ensure full compliance and close monitoring of these commitments
with the participation of civil society.
Recommendations
to International Organizations:
-
Support the official elements of all peace processes; implement programmes
to support and promote the participation of civil society, which is
a fundamental element to the success of any peace process.
- Make
every effort to pressure absentee parties (who play a major role in
achieving and guaranteeing peace), such as the business sector and paramilitary
groups, to make commitments to the peace process.
-
Ensure the strengthening of the UN, the ideal world organization to
seek and promote peace.
